B i o g r a p h y

Mike Roberts studied composition, piano and electronic music at the University of York under Prof. John Paynter, David Blake, Jo Rothwell and Richard Orton.  His professional career started as a Pianist with The London Contemporary Dance Theatre and a Songwriter for The Jim Henson Organisation.

A Composer, Producer and Sound Artist uninhibited by stylistic boundaries, Mike's client list includes BBC TV & Radio, BBC Symphony Orchestra, ITV, Sky, Pace Productions, Warner Chappell, Warner Classic, Focus Music, Stock Music, North Star Music, The Barbican Centre, Telemagination, CNN, Brook Lapping, Artsdepot and The Wigmore Hall.


Firm in the belief that creative freedom brings both the joy and responsibility of sharing that experience, Mike’s commitment to ‘pass on’ has led to international involvement in Music Education and Community Engagement.  From running workshops for children with special needs to tutoring post-graduate composers, his enthusiasm for music is infectious.  A professor at London’s prestigious Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Mike founded and now runs the School’s unique Principal Studies in Electronic Music, Film Music, Sonic Arts, Game Audio, Live Electronics and Popular Music Production. 



Mike is married to Sarah and they live in South Cambridgeshire with their two young children and dog.
